After much prevarication I finally persuaded myself that I needed to buy a glass film-holder for the Nikon Coolscan 9000 that I use for scanning medium format transparencies and negatives. £430 is way too much, but Nikon have us over a barrel on this one. I should have done this years ago, as the results are stunning, and I can produce 16 bit 100Mb plus greyscale files that are 8500 pixels along the longest edge. That means I can print HUGE! The first 100 images in this gallery are the result of my initial attempts with this new piece of kit and Silverfast software. I am impressed! They feature many of my good friends. Looking through them over the last few weeks I got incredibly nostalgic for those wild trips in the Karakoram and Hindu Kush. Of course the mountain scenery is awesome, but most of all it was a complete privilege and honour to venture forth in the company of men such as these. I have been so lucky!
The rest are assorted earlier flat-bed scans of medium format negatives taken in Peshawar etc.
