A day at the legendary Sunday market on the outskirts of Kashgar, the dusty capital of Xinjiang province.
Supposedly autonomous like Tibet, this mainly Moslem corner of the Chinese empire has been the scene of a nascent Uighur nationalism of late. Sadly, after violent episodes against Chinese folk here, the sprawling and chaotic outdoor Sunday market has been largely curtailed and moved to a new, purpose built and rather ugly indoor venue.
