HIMALAYA: BHUTAN: The East Pho Chhu valley

The East Pho Chhu valley
Looking towards Thanza from Chozo. The devastation wrought by the cataclysmic glacial outburst flood of 1994 can be clearly seen. A glacial dam above Thanza gave way, resulting in a massive wave of flood water tearing down the valley. Many were killed, and much livestock / infrastructue lost. Punakha Dzong, which is a hundred miles to the south, was badly damaged.
